Power BI updates improve data access and introduce important enterprise controls to help secure data. The service continues to expand the list of available data sources to include more competitor products and address the growing use of nonrelational data, often used in Web sites and Big Data products. Other improvements deliver security and auditing features to help comply with regulations and access control options to help protect sensitive data. Understanding Power BI’s new enterprise features and roadmap will help organizations plan for the future and invest in the right business intelligence (BI) technologies.
Access to Data
The list of available data sources has continued to expand and allows designers to include data from more locations. New on-premises gateways provide secure, controlled access to on-premises data and include scheduled refresh functionality.
Data Source List Expanded
The list of Power BI data sources, available for query, are updated frequently (usually monthly) to address changing data trends and make more data sources available for analysis. The new sources are all available through the Power BI Desktop application, and many of them are available through the Power BI portal.
