  • Most Power BI Premium P customers must migrate to Fabric at their next licensing renewal.
  • Multiple Fabric purchase options are available, but choosing the right one is key to keeping costs the same.
  • Customers migrating to Fabric should also establish processes to limit Fabric’s impact on Power BI resources.

Microsoft has retired Power BI Premium P licenses for commercial customers and is requiring those customers to move to Fabric licensing and deployments. Although costs usually remain the same, multiple purchasing options can cause confusion. Knowing how to buy Fabric and when to migrate is key to controlling costs and limiting the impact on users.

This report answers the main questions and concerns Directions customers with Power BI Premium P deployments have raised as they are faced with migrating to Fabric. Governement Community Cloud (GCC) customers and commercial customers using the other Power BI back-end platforms (Pro, Premium Per-User, Premium EM, Azure Power BI Embedded, or Power BI Report Server) are not affected by this change.
