  • Power BI classic workspace creation could be blocked starting in Oct. 2020.

Power BI workspaces are secure areas for hosting reports, controlling user access, and collaborating on content, typically assigned to an individual department, process, or project. The new workspace format, released in Apr. 2019, replaces the original workspace concept, which is now referred to as classic workspaces.

New Workspace Format

The new workspace format was developed to address user productivity issues and provide an environment more suitable for enterprises adopting Power BI. Compared to classic workspaces, the new format includes the following:

  • An interface designed for users with a large volume of content
  • Template app support
