  • Power BI continues to refine data management capabilities, providing a single platform for all BI processes.
  • The approach reduces latency, helps data governance, and simplifies security.
  • Updated query features address more complex data gathering requirements and reduce dependencies on other systems.
  • New integrations with other Azure data services can help architects leverage the performance of other services.

Power BI continues to introduce advanced data management capabilities, beyond simple dataset hosting, that could allow consolidation of data modeling, integration, hosting, and reporting. However, using Power BI for data management services requires rearchitecting existing environments, increasing capacities, and potentially moving and paying for more data to Microsoft’s hosted services.

This report focuses on Power BI data management tools and services that provide data query, data modeling, and data integration features used to create data repositories for reports, dashboards, and other content. The tools also include data connectors that provide access to Azure-hosted and external data sources and data gateways that connect to on-premises databases.
