Analyst ReportPower BI Service Management Updates
- Power BI has introduced new data, reporting, and integration features that can place a strain on capacity.
- Emerging management tools can help improve security, but optimizing performance still requires in-house or third-party solutions.
Power BI is a set of Microsoft business intelligence (BI) technologies that includes several tightly integrated software and Microsoft-hosted components. (Components are discussed in “Power BI Components Overview”.) To help administrators manage more complex environments and multiple types of workloads, Power BI now offers a mix of metrics and access to low-level information to help monitor and improve performance. Enhancements also address security and access to on-premises data.
Power BI back end hosting options include five online services and one on-premises server product. (A full analysis and comparison of Power BI back end hosting options appears in “Choosing a Power BI Platform” on page 34 of the May 2019 Update.)
This report focuses on the two online services most large organizations consider: Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium.
