  • Several versions of Windows, Office desktop, and Office servers will leave support through 2020.
  • By the end of 2020, common current deployments will be unsupported.
  • Many combinations of software, while still eligible for product support, will no longer interoperate properly.
  • Organizations should plan for these upgrades now to minimize disruption in 2020.

Several versions of Windows and Office software will leave Mainstream or Extended support in 2020, and Office 365 and other Microsoft-hosted services will stop accepting connections from older versions of desktop software. These changes will necessitate software upgrades which could, in turn, affect the supportability of other software, and in some cases compel organizations to upgrade additional products before their product support ends. Organizations that employ these products should plan upgrades (both software and hardware) and, if necessary, investigate alternatives as soon as possible.
