  • Azure SQL Managed Instance, a cloud database service, has received support for more data replication options.
  • Some features, originally from SQL Server, remove barriers to using SQL Managed Instance in complex data-sharing architectures.
  • Others help customers migrate sensitive databases to the service and move and copy databases for dev/test.

Azure SQL Managed Instance introduces four new data replication methods that can help SQL Server customers use the service in previously unsupported scenarios. Two methods are based on traditional SQL Server technologies; they support using the service in complex workloads that require sending data outside of Azure or to older SQL Server databases. The other two methods ease the migration of data from tightly controlled servers to SQL Managed Instance and help administrators copy or move databases to support developers and balance workloads. (For a service overview, see the sidebar “Azure SQL Managed Instance Overview”.)
