SQL Operations Studio is a lightweight SQL Server database management tool that is available for Linux, macOS, and Windows devices and is currently in preview. The screen image shows Operations Studio’s main screen with the user connected to a database. Operations Studio could benefit some developers who need basic features, like backup, restore, and query from Linux or macOS devices. However, it is designed for non-administrative users and cannot manage complete SQL Server instances or perform many other required administrative tasks.

Operations Studio installs with few predefined functions and requires users to perform most tasks programmatically by using T-SQL commands in the query window. Routine queries can be saved as tiles for quick access, and monitoring queries that generate graphical output, such as query performance charts, can be saved as widgets that are used to create customized dashboards. The product is licensed under an open source license, is available on GitHub, and is extensible. Consequently, developers can extend the product with additional functionality, which may make the product more attractive.
