SQL Server 2019, the latest release, reached general availability on Nov. 6, 2019. The release introduces technology that can store, access, and analyze a greater variety of data types across different platforms, allowing organizations to extract more insights and intelligence from data. Improvements also raise levels of security and performance.
Unlike many other Microsoft server products, SQL Server 2019 maintains a traditional five years of Mainstream and five years of Extended support. The next release is scheduled for the middle of 2021. (See “SQL Server Timeline”.)
