RoadmapEndpoint Protection
Endpoint Protection detects and removes viruses, worms, Trojans, adware, and spyware from computers. The antivirus engine in Endpoint Protection is the same engine used by Intune, the online management and security subscription service; Windows Defender, which is built into Windows and Windows Server; and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (previously Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection).
Endpoint Protection uses System Center Configuration Manager for centralized management, and the two products are updated together. In 2020, “System Center” was dropped from the product branding, which is now simply referred to as Endpoint Protection.
Servicing and Support
Endpoint Protection follows the release schedule of Configuration Manager, which gets new Current Branch versions three times a year. For more information, see “Configuration Manager Timeline.” It is not clear when customers should expect the next LTSB release of Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection.
