Exchange Server will receive improvements in the next five years, mostly to speed customer migrations to Exchange Online. Customers will also see some disruptive changes in 2026-2027. Exchange Server provides e-mail communication and manages calendars, contacts, and tasks, either on its own or integrated with the Exchange Online hosted service (called a hybrid configuration). Most Exchange seats are now in the cloud, but some customers continue to host Exchange Server themselves or in third-party datacenters for compliance or security reasons.

Servicing and Support
Exchange Server SE will qualify for Microsoft product support through at least 2035. The SE support policy, announced Aug. 5, 2025, offers free Security Updates, documentation, and other management support to customers who maintain sufficient active subscription licenses or Software Assurance (SA) on the software.
Exchange Server SE follows a modern life cycle, which requires that customers run the latest cumulative update (CU) for support. CUs normally arrive twice a year. The current CU is important for several reasons, including the following:
