Power BI Data Management
Power BI services provide enterprise data management capabilities to support deployments in which semantic data models (datasets) can be centrally curated by experts and accessed securely by report users and analysts, but in the same environment.
Data Management Overview
Power BI data management features are used in combination with other Power BI components as a full-service reporting solution. Consolidating data management and hosting data in Power BI allows customers to create complex environments in the cloud, much like on-premises, reducing latency, helping enforce governance, and simplifying security across data, processes, and reports. (For more details, see the illustration “Power BI Dataset Design Tools Explained“. For a sample architecture, see the illustration “Power BI Data Management Example“.)
The main data types used by Power BI data management are semantic data models, dataflows, and data marts. They have similar capabilities and can be used separately or together to create complex environments, much like on-premises deployments.
