AI and Copilot in Microsoft 365
As with many other companies, Microsoft is currently launching new services that can be promoted as AI-driven.
Microsoft’s Copilot brand is a label various Microsoft product groups are using to describe advanced machine learning features, primarily based on natural language processing. However, the Copilot brand does not represent a cohesive set of tools and features, and other than the natural language interface, there is little consistency between the offerings. The proliferation of the Copilot brand is part of Microsoft’s strategy to embed natural language artificial intelligence (AI) tools across its services and to leverage the news coverage of ChatGPT and OpenAI. Most of the new features, other than those offered by GitHub, are in previews with no set release dates, and packaging and pricing information is preliminary. In some products like Microsoft 365, Copilot features require a paid add-on subscription, whereas with other products like Dynamics 365, Copilot is included with high-end subscriptions.
