Azure Data Factory (ADF) is a cloud extract, transform, and load (ETL) service that helps automate data integration and transformation from on-premises, third-party database services and Azure-hosted data services.

Product:   Azure Data Factory

Upcoming changes to the service in the near and long term include:

Recent Updates and Near Term Roadmap (2025–2026)

Microsoft stopped most of the significant updates in mid-2024 when they shifted focus to Fabric Data Factory (FDF), thus there are few updates released in 2025 or planned for 2026.

The Apache Airflow Workflow Orchestration Manager capabilities are only available for existing customers, as of early 2025. The feature is deprecated and there is no retirement date for Airflow in ADF; however, customers should plan a migration to Airflow in FDF or another solution.

The service still receives the occasional connectors to new Azure data sources and routine security updates, but most major changes are related to new versions of the SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) engine that come from releases of SQL Server, such as SQL Server 2025.
