RoadmapProject Server Roadmap
Project Server is an SharePoint Server application for managing project schedules and resource data, reporting time and status, and analyzing an organization’s projects. It is part of Microsoft’s legacy Project line of project management software and services. Project Server receives little Microsoft development effort, but one version, Project Server Subscription Edition (SE), will probably be supported in its current form through 2029, and possibly longer.

Near Term (2025-2026)
Project Server versions 2016 and 2019 lose all support in Oct. 2025. (See the illustration “Project Legacy Timeline“.) To keep access to security fixes and other support, organizations will have to move to Project Server SE, or to the Project Online cloud service. Both require customers to apply frequent updates and to pay ongoing subscription fees.
Long Term
Long term, Project Server is unlikely to receive improvements except security fixes, bug fixes, and updates for compatibility with new software. For example, the SharePoint Server 25H1 update released in Mar. 2025 enabled Project Server support for Windows Server 2025 and SQL Server 2022. However, new features for Project Server have not appeared.
