Skype for Business Server Roadmap

Skype for Business Server provides a unified communications solution for voice, chat, and video communication, as well as “enterprise voice” capabilities to integrate with or replace on-premises private branch exchange (PBX) telephone systems. It works with client applications for desktop and mobile devices, notably the Skype for Business client for Windows, and it provides a limited browser interface for conference attendees.

Near Term (2025)

The near-term roadmap is focused on the release of Skype for Business Server Subscription Edition (SE) and the retirement of Skype for Business Server 2015 and 2019 versions in Oct. 2025.

Skype for Business Server SE provides a path forward for customers who require an on-premises unified communications solution for regulatory or compliance purposes or for scenarios or integrations not supported by Teams.
