SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is a role in SQL Server, Microsoft’s long-standing on-premises database management and business intelligence (BI) software. SSIS provides features used to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into one or more destinations on a routine basis. SSIS is available in SQL Server and as a deployment option in Azure Data Factory, providing a hybrid solution for customers who need to continually move data between on-premises and the cloud.

Product: SQL Server

Licensing: SQL Server

Near Term (2024–2025)

In the near term, SSIS will not receive major updates, because it is on the same release schedule as SQL Server, where a new version is expected in late 2025 or early 2026.

It was not updated in SQL Server 2022; however, this is not an immediate concern as it has a significant install base and Microsoft has not deprecated it and there are no plans to retire it. Further evidence of Microsoft’s support for Integration Services came in 2022, when the Integration Services runtime (a separate engine to run Integration Services packages) was made available in Azure Synapse Analytics, so customers can use existing Integration packages to populate Synapse Analytics data storage.
