The Dynamics CRM team plans to deliver new features at least twice a year for CRM Online customers in April and October updates, while on-premises customers should see packages of enhancements and fixes, called service packs, once a year in October.

The easiest way to understand and track CRM Online versions is to use the CRM Online version numbers rather than version names. In chronological order, the most recent versions are as follows:

  • Version 6.1 is CRM Online Spring ’14 (released in June 2014)
  • Version 7.0 is CRM Online 2015 Update (released in Dec. 2014)
  • Version 7.1 is CRM Online 2015 Update 1 (released in May 2015)
  • Version 7.2 will probably be CRM Online 2015 Update 2 (expected in Oct. 2015).

In a departure from previous CRM Online update policies, which required customers to schedule an update of their instances within a specified time-frame, customers can now elect to remain on their current CRM Online version, as long as the version is no more than two versions behind the most current version. For example, a customer currently on CRM Online version 7.0 can choose not to upgrade to 7.1 but will be required to upgrade when 7.2 is released in late 2015. At that time, the customer can choose to upgrade to either version 7.1 or version 7.2.
