Power BI Embedded allows users to embed refreshable Power BI reports in Web sites and applications. This offers access to Power BI reports by users outside of the organization without requiring a Power BI subscription for those users. The service allows developers to add Power BI reports to existing applications with minimal changes and will most likely interest organizations that need to share reports, dashboards, and other metrics with clients and the general public, such as financial services and equipment maintenance providers.

Power BI Embedded is a separate service from the general Power BI service available in Office 365, although it uses many of the same report design tools.

Service Overview

Reports and dashboards are created using the Power BI Desktop, a free downloadable desktop report design tool that creates Power BI (PBIX) files.

Once created, reports are imported programmatically (via a Power BI REST API) to a Power BI Workspace in Azure, which is a special storage container that can include datasets, reports, and dashboards.
