  • Dynamics 365 CRM applications are scheduled for a first wave of updates, beginning Apr. 2023.
  • Incremental user-productivity updates address shortcomings and help user efficiency.
  • New AI features automate processes and assist users with recommendations, but also bring new legal risks.

Dynamics 365 CRM-related applications, including Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, and Field Service, will receive a series of updates, beginning with the Dynamics 365 2023 Wave 1 in Apr. 2023. A “Wave” is not a single update but rather a semiannual marketing effort wherein Microsoft announces the new features and changes that it expects to reach public preview or general availability in the six months following the Wave release.

Waves generally start in April and October of each year and provide an opportunity for customers to view a proposed timeline of new features and make plans for what features to test and adopt. However, based on previous Waves many release dates tend to slip, and some new features planned for public preview never arrive. Consequently, customers should never plan to test or roll out new features until they reach general availability. (For more details, see the illustration “Dynamics 365 CRM Timeline, Mar. 2023”)
