Analyst ReportCopilot Brand Expands, Not a Cohesive Toolset
- Copilot is a brand being rapidly applied across Microsoft services.
- Copilot represents a strategy to use large language models and other advanced machine learning processes for user productivity and data analysis.
- Copilot is not a single technology or cohesive toolset, and customers should evaluate each Copilot feature separately.
- Organizations should not rush to adopt Copilot, as most of the new features are still in preview.
Microsoft’s Copilot brand does not represent a cohesive set of tools and features but rather is a label that various Microsoft product groups are using to describe advanced machine learning features, primarily based on natural language processing. The proliferation of the Copilot brand is part of Microsoft’s strategy to embed natural language artificial intelligence (AI) tools across its services and to leverage the news coverage of ChatGPT and OpenAI. However, customers should take a slow approach and evaluate features separately. Most of the new features, other than those offered by GitHub, are in previews with no set release dates, and there is very little packaging and pricing information available.
