RoadmapData Explorer
Azure Data Explorer (ADX) is a managed analytics database for collecting, storing, and rapidly querying large volumes of log, telemetry, time-series, and other event data. It is best suited to operational analytics that require near-real-time results, such as monitoring equipment, investigating application failures, detecting unusual activity, and tracking customer behavior.
Microsoft continues to develop ADX while using the same Kusto engine and Kusto Query Language (KQL) as the foundation for Eventhouse in Fabric Real-Time Intelligence.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026-2027)
ADX announcements have been relatively limited, but the service is not dormant. Recent work emphasizes resilience, security, AI access, and Kusto capabilities that are shared with Fabric Eventhouse. However, Microsoft does not publish or release future plans for Data Explorer.
Key updates include the following:
Improved Availability Zone support. The update will improve resistance to an Azure datacenter failure without requiring customers to rebuild the cluster, although supported regions and capacity are limited, the change cannot be reversed, and zone-redundant storage costs more.
