Microsoft Places is a set of advanced work-scheduling features for Teams and Exchange Online, intended for employees who move frequently between work locations. Places is available to users by default but requires IT professionals to configure it and set policy. Customers evaluating work-scheduling solutions should consider Places, because its core capabilities are included in most Microsoft 365 and Office 365 enterprise plans. However, Places’ future is unclear, and customers should approach it cautiously.

Near-Term Roadmap (2025)

Plans through the rest of 2025 address the following audiences:

End users will get a new form of mention (@nearby) to contact colleagues who are present at a work site, and organizers with Teams Premium licenses will get an enhanced room finder that works through meeting chat and that can automatically activate if an upcoming meeting lacks a room.

Administrators will get improvements, including an enhanced PowerShell command for initial setup, and a Microsoft Graph interface, which could support automation and customization with Power Apps and Power Automate.
