  • The SharePoint roadmap for 2025 is predictable with no surprises, but it does include some potential cost increases.
  • Controlling Copilot’s extensive search capabilities is now required to minimize risk of over-sharing.
  • Teams has decreased its reliance on SharePoint Online but does not impact SharePoint’s future.
  • On-premises customers should be running SharePoint Server SE or have plans to migrate by early 2026.

SharePoint, available online and on-premises, is a long-standing Microsoft product that provides team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, and content management. The SharePoint roadmap for 2025 shows a balance of updates across the product with new components for developers, important security features for administrators, and, of course, new Copilot capabilities that continue to promote Microsoft’s AI strategy. Overall, SharePoint remains a key part of Microsoft’s collaboration strategy, both on its own as well as part of a back-end platform that supports OneDrive, Teams, Loop, Stream, and others.
