Azure Cosmos DB is a multimodal database service that supports multiple data formats and open source languages, allowing developers to work with several different data types in the same service while sharing security settings and replication features across types.

Near Term (2024–2025)

Recent updates to Cosmos DB can cut costs, improve application performance and security, and reduce development efforts, and they include the following:

MongoDB vCore clusters support Private Link so public endpoints are no longer required; auto-scale provisions resources as they are demanded; geospatial query support helps build applications that work with geographic entities; cross-region replication distributes database copies to improve performance and fault tolerance; and support for MongoDB 7.0 is added.

MongoDB received improvements to vector database capabilities to help build AI applications.

NoSQL computed properties are generally available. Computed property values are generated during queries, reducing storage requirements.
