Microsoft Places is an Office 365 service that expands the scheduling capabilities of Exchange Online to help workers arrange their schedule for in-person collaboration, assist in booking meeting and collaboration spaces, and provide employers and facilities managers with data to optimize use of office space to reduce costs.
Product: Places
Licensing: Microsoft 365 Enterprise
Places became generally available in Nov. 2024 and began a rollout to customers in Dec. 2024.
Places was a high priority for Microsoft when it was first announced in Nov. 2022. At the time, managing remote and hybrid work was a concern for most customers, and Microsoft was investing heavily in Teams as a collaboration platform. Since early 2023, Microsoft has shifted its product strategy to focus heavily on its Copilot-branded services and products, and many organizations have instituted broad return-to-office (RTO) polices, reducing the demand for products to manage hybrid workforces. These factors likely contributed to the long delay of Places and will influence both the near-term and long-term roadmaps.
