Microsoft Places is a set of advanced work-scheduling features for Teams and Exchange Online, intended for employees who move frequently between work locations. Places is available to users by default but requires IT professionals to configure it and set policy. Customers evaluating work-scheduling solutions should consider Places, because its core capabilities are included in most Microsoft 365 and Office 365 enterprise plans. However, Places’ future is unclear, and customers should approach it cautiously.

Near-Term (2025)

Most planned features for 2025 fall into the following areas:

Booking shared desks at a work site. Many improvements enable finer-grained workspace sharing. For example, workers can book desks for less than a whole day, and a desk can “auto-release” from booked to unbooked if a user does not check in and claim his booking by a certain time. Workers can book desks from maps that also help find nearby bookings of colleagues, and users can delegate bookings permissions to an assistant or other user.
