Project Online Roadmap

Project Online is a Microsoft 365 subscription service that provides central management, automated scheduling, resource management, and other functions for project managers and their teams. It is part of Microsoft’s legacy Project line of project management software and services.

Near Term (2025-2026)

Project Online recently delivered security, quality, and performance updates, but few new features other than additional templates. A solution for migration from Project Online to Project for the Web is in the pilot stage (e-mail ProjectPilotProgram@microsoft.com to learn more), but it will interest only customers with basic project management requirements rather than those who need the more extensive features offered by Project Online.

Project Professional Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) 2024, a client for project managers working with Project Online or Project Server, became available in Sept. 2024. That release implies five more years of support for the client, which represents a vote of confidence for the service and server as well.
