RoadmapTeams Meetings and Events
Microsoft Teams is commonly used for audio and video meetings and large-scale broadcast events. Although meetings and 1:1 calls are often the first capabilities leveraged by organizations, the product also supports hosting webinars and streaming video broadcasts called town halls, which can offer more structured events for large audiences. Live events, an earlier streaming video feature, is being retired effective June 30, 2026. Advanced webinar and town hall features that previously required a Teams Premium add-on User Subscription License (User SL) are part of the standard Teams license effective Apr. 1, 2026. However, Teams Premium is still required to enable additional security and management capabilities for Teams meetings. Related services include Teams Rooms for on-premises conference room devices and Virtual Appointments, which are scheduled via Bookings.

Retirements
Teams live events will be retired on June 30, 2026, renewing a retirement originally planned for Sept. 30, 2024. Live events are broadcast-based Teams events for large audiences, similar to but offering fewer capabilities than Teams town halls, which were developed to replace live events. Previously scheduled live events will be supported through Feb. 28, 2027. The retirement includes live events scheduled through Dynamics 365 and Viva Engage, as well as associated Graph APIs. The retirement of Teams live events was announced at “Retiring Teams live events: The next chapter for events at scale in Microsoft Teams” (Microsoft).
