The Sensor Data Intelligence (SDI) add-in is no longer being sold but is still supported and not scheduled for retirement. Microsoft states that a change in technical and product strategy is the reason, but SDI’s future remains unclear, and customers should reevaluate plans for SDI expansion. SDI is a Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management add-in that works with IoT devices to track and evaluate potential issues, such as device failure on manufacturing floor equipment. SDI was removed from Microsoft’s product list in Nov. 2022 without prior notification, which usually indicates an impending retirement. However, unlike offerings facing impending retirement, SDI’s features are still supported, and administrative documents are being updated with no mention of deprecation. This combination of events likely indicates that SDI features are not in jeopardy and they are moving into the core application or another component like Intelligent Order Management, a separate Dynamics 365 service that orchestrates order fulfillment and inventory allocation processes. Supply Chain Management is discussed in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap at https://www.directionsonmicrosoft.com/roadmap/ref/dynamics-365-supply-chain-management.
