Charts & IllustrationsDynamics 365 Online Enterprise Services Timeline
Dynamics 365 Online services receive new features in Major and Minor service update windows that begin in April and October of each year. Stand-alone services are released throughout the year and receive continual updates that are outside of customer control.
This illustration highlights significant changes planned for Customer Engagement and Operations offerings, the rollout periods for Major service updates, the availability of stand-alone services, and notable retirements.
The latest Major updates for Customer Engagement and Operations were released in Oct. 2021. Customers are normally required to take updates during an available update window within a specified rollout period: 30 days for Customer Engagement and 90 days for Operations.
The Major service updates also mark the beginning of a six-month period of Minor service updates that contain a combination of fixes and new functionality, which customers can choose to delay accepting with some limits. The continual updating results in more testing of new features and customizations and recertification of systems for regulatory compliance. A full discussion on servicing challenges and a list of strategies are covered in “Dynamics 365 Servicing Is Continual and Complex” on page 17 of the Nov. 2019 Update, “Managing Finance & Operations Continuous Updates” on page 12 of the Aug. 2019 Update, and “Managing Customer Engagement Continuous Updates” on page 9 of the July 2019 Update.
