Power BI Report Design Tools
Power BI includes design tools that are used in combination with other Power BI hosting and data management components as a full-service reporting solution.
Report Formats and Design Tools Overview
Three report formats based on Microsoft tools and technology can be hosted on Power BI platforms and are built using specific design tools. (For further details, see “Power BI Report Design Tools Explained“.)
Power BI reports are the primary report format, created using Power BI Desktop and the Power BI portal.
Excel reports are typical Excel workbooks (stored as .xlsx files) that organizations use for routine business analysis.
Paginated reports are traditional SQL Server Reporting Services tabular reports, based on Microsoft’s Report Definition Language (RDL) and created using Power BI Report Builder.
Other report formats, such as Metrics (a scorecard solution) and SharePoint list reports, are created using Power BI Desktop or the Power BI portal. They are actually custom Power BI reports with special formatting and controls, rather than a separate report format.
