The Business Applications Roadmap describes Microsoft products (on-premises software and cloud services) that provide traditional business functionality like collaboration, email, project management, customer relationship management (CRM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP), among others.

The Business Applications Roadmap summarizes each product and discusses its near-term and long-term roadmap, providing guidance on important changes and plans in the following chapters.

Collaboration Services Roadmap provides a general discussion on Microsoft’s overall collaboration strategy and roadmap.

Server Application Version Support provides a matrix showing application compatibility with underlying Windows Server and SQL Server versions in Mainstream and Extended support periods.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot chapter discusses the AI-based productivity service providing an array of features including chat and image creation. Services in this chapter include:

The Exchange and Outlook chapter discusses software and services that provide e-mail and personal information management functions, including calendar and contact management. Products in this chapter include the following:

The SharePoint, OneDrive, and Related Technology chapter primarily discusses SharePoint, an application platform and a suite of applications and components used for team collaboration, content management, portal hosting, enterprise search, and business intelligence.

The products in this chapter include the following:

The Teams chapter primarily discusses the functional areas of Microsoft teams, which offers group-based collaboration spaces with persistent chat, voice and video meetings, webinar and video broadcast capabilities, and optional Teams Phone services to replace or augment traditional on-premises phone systems.

The products in this chapter include the following:

The service leverages integration with other Microsoft services like SharePoint OnlineStream, and Exchange Online for many of its capabilities. In addition, Teams apps extend the functionality of Teams with information and content from Microsoft and third-party services, and Microsoft promotes low-code development and automation in Teams using Power Apps and Power Automate.

The Project and Portfolio Management chapter discusses services and on-premises software that provide various levels of project management capabilities, ranging from general task management tracking solutions to high-end project scheduling and activity management to overall portfolio management found in Program Management Offices (PMO).

The Viva chapter covers Viva is a set of solutions to improve employee productivity and development that fall under Microsoft’s employee experience platform (EXP).

The Dynamics 365 CRM chapter covers cloud services and on-premises software that offers sales, marketing, and other customer relationship management (CRM) features. The product is sold worldwide and is designed for small, medium, and large organizations. Customer Engagement’s principal competitors include CRM products and services from Oracle, Salesforce.com, and SAP.

The Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations chapter discusses the collection of enterprise resource planning (ERP), e-commerce, project management, and human resources (HR) applications. The product is sold worldwide and is designed for multinational and midmarket companies and enterprises, and it includes industry-specific capabilities for manufacturing, distribution, retail, professional services (such as consulting), and the public sector.
