The Compute, Networking, and Infrastructure Roadmap describes the components and services of Azure and on-premises datacenter components, including virtual machines, networking, and storage. It discusses the near-term and long-term technical roadmaps.
Reports focusing on Azure discuss primarily Azure commercial offering. Azure Government, which delivers Azure cloud services with isolation, security, and standards certification for eligible U.S. government agencies and their partners, does not adhere to the same timeline and the arrival of Azure services in Azure Government isn’t entirely predictable or assured. Microsoft uses many specialized terms to describe aspects of Azure, which are summarized in the Azure Terminology entry.
The Roadmap is divided into chapters for each major functional area that are broken into reports on individual products and services:
The Compute chapter includes Azure services and on-premises products that host and manage VMs, orchestrate container-based applications, schedule and distribute workloads across Azure and on-premises resources, manage development and test environments, and simplify real-time Web site communications between clients and servers.

The Networking chapter includes services that establish virtual subnets within Azure (which can include on-premises servers), provide connectivity from outside networks into Azure, secure communications, balance network requests, analyze network activity, and implement private cellular networks.
The Data Storage chapter includes Azure foundation storage capabilities, services for data backup and import, and storage offering built for specific use-case scnarios.
